How teen classes and driving lessons work?
Teens Getting a Permit
Teens in Washington State can apply for an instruction permit at age 15. You must pre-apply on the DOL website, enroll in a state-approved driver's education course, and pay the fee. The permit allows you to practice driving with a licensed driver who has had at least 5 years of experience.

You can reach us anytime via phone (253) 720 3701, Call or Text, email: wellsdsch@gmail.com or fill a form in our contact page. We aim to respond quickly—usually within one business day.
Classroom sessions are held as a group of students in a class. We meet for 15 sessions that last 2 hours each (total of 30 hours). We provide the workbook, and you’ll use it to follow along as we cover driving concepts and knowledge.
Driving lessons are held outside of the classroom sessions and are scheduled individually. We offer driving lessons every weekday and have some limited Saturday lessons available. We’ll help you build a schedule that works with your calendar and won’t force you to take driving lesson times that you don’t want. If you cannot make it to a driving lesson, we do ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid a $80 late cancellation fee.
Get your WDL Number: Pre-apply online through the Washington DOL License Express portal. At the end of the process, you'll receive a Washington Driver License (WDL) number. https://dol.wa.gov/pre-apply-online
Enroll in Driver's Ed: You must be at least 15 to take the instruction permit to your training school. The school will electronically verify your enrollment with the DOL. http://wellsdriving.com/
Complete your permit application no earlier than 10 days before your course starts (including weekends and holidays). You will need to drive during your course, so try to complete it before your course begins. If you’re under 18, your parent or guardian must be with you so they can give you permission online to get your permit
Pay the Permit Fee: Once your enrollment is processed, you can pay the $35 fee online or in person at a DOL office.
Visit a DOL Office: You will need to visit a Washington DOL Location in person to provide proof of your identity (e.g., birth certificate), complete a vision screening, and get your photo taken. Parkland Driver Licensing Office
Complete your driver training course. You will take the knowledge test as part of your course, so you don't need to take it separately at a driver licensing office.

What if I can't establish my identity?
If your parent or guardian isn't available to help establish your identity and you can't establish it on your own, you have a few options:
If you're in foster care, ask your caseworker to submit a Washington State Identicard form for you.
If you're in the Juvenile Rehabilitation (JR) system, contact your caseworker.
If you are experiencing homelessness and enrolled in public school, contact your school's homeless education liaison. If you don't know who this is, any teacher or counselor can direct you to them.
Reach out to local youth services or community organizations to see if they can help confirm your identity.
You can also visit a driver licensing office and ask to speak to a supervisor about your situation. They'll help you with your options.
